Durban wedding photography | Ruschka and Tyrone

Couple | Ruschka & Tyrone

Durban wedding photographers | Jay Pillay Photography

Ceremony | Durban Botanical Gardens

Reception | Durban ICC

MUA | Khadija (Radiant Image SA)

A quite beautiful and opulent ceremony and reception. Ruschka and Tyrone were all smiles and it was such an honour working with this couple. Grand entrances were made with Tyrone striding in on a horse and Ruschka being carried in by her musketeers in a beautifully decorated Dholi. Durban Botanical Gardens made for a serene ceremony and the huge trees surrounding the mandap meant there was ample shade for the guests. Birds chirping, a gentle breeze and the soothing rituals from Pandit Maharaj gave the ceremony a timeless and transcendent feeling. We only had 30 minutes to do a creative shoot but the couple didn't need any posing (definitely helps when Ruschka was a winner of beauty contents as a youngster)

The ICC provided the glitz to the day and I'm sure all guest felt like they were celebrities. It was time to let loose and let loose they did. It was a great evening filled with fun, laughter, and joy, all in celebration of the beautiful life that lay await for Tyrone and Ruschka.

Couple | Maria & Arif

Truly a day to remember at Oakfield Wedding Venue in Muldersdrift. Maria and Arif's reception day had it all...there was romance, adventure, diversity and pure joy in this coming together of two soulmates. Two hearts became one and equally important two families became one. It was one of those functions you attend where you don't mind dancing the night away. The formal ceremony, reception, dance, creative shoot and sparkle send-off comprised so many special memories that would be etched into Maria and Arif's mind for eternity. Literally every person was on the dance floor wanting to be part of the action and be apart of the couples euphoria.

Kam + Lee

Venue | St. Ives, Midlands

The KZN midlands presents photographic riches and Kam and Lee's memorable day at St. Ives did not disappoint at all. Kam and Lee really outdid themselves with their special day. The attention to detail was clear for all to see. The chapel at the venue played host to the traditional Hindu ceremony and it was a beautiful affair to behold. The landscape was stunning, and had the perfect amount of cloud cover to make for dramatic creative images. Their reception was a real treat and guests for spoilt with jaw-dropping views of the lake at sunset.

A truly memorable day for Jitesh and Damaine at Collisheen Estate. The task of distilling their wedding film to 10 minutes seemed near impossible as there were so many great moments from their wedding. I am all but certain that the raw emotion, euphoria and beauty of the day will be forever etched not just into the couples' memories, but also each and every person involved in their day. All of the best for your wedded life and enjoy San Francisco!

Paris Wedding Photographers | Notre-Dame Cathedral

Location | Notre-Dame de Paris

Paris wedding photographer | Jay Pillay Photography

One of the most majestic cathedrals in the world and an exemplar of French architecture, Notre-Dame de Paris is a fitting and spectacular place to shoot some creative images. Having this as a backdrop adds a level of depth and quality to a photograph difficult to achieve in normal portraiture. The overcast conditions set the scene for a moody feel, contrasted by the romance of the couple.

Location | Pont de Bir-Hakeim, Paris

If you ever get a chance to visit Paris, the Bir-Hakeim bridge is a must see. It crosses the Siene River and the architecture and design is something to behold...not to mention having breathtaking views of the Eiffel Tower and other city highlights. If you've watched Inception, you'll remember it from where Ariadne learns how to build dreams! This is part 1 of my images taken at Bir-Hakeim.

Durban wedding photography | Venolin and Chantal

Venue | Umhlanga Hindu Society Hall

Make-up, Hair and Styling | Bridal Moments with Theshen

Decor | Koogan Pillay

DJ and Lighting | Sound & Light Innovations

Catering | Indian Delights

When Chantal first phoned me I could tell she had a clear vision for her big day. She and Venolin booked me before they could even see the wedding albums...so they trusted the service they would get. As listed above, they sourced some of the premium service providers for their wedding, so attention to detail was a must.

Their wedding ceremony at the Umhlanga Hindu Society Hall was a tranquil affair. Hindu weddings in South Africa invariably take place on either a Saturday or Sunday, however, having a Friday wedding holds particular significance in Hindu culture. Gurukkal Swaminathan chanted the holy rituals with an intensity and passion fit for a wedding on the banks of the river Ganges.

Durban, being on the East Coast, has very short Winter days, with the sun setting as early as 5pm. This meant that we did not get a chance to take some sunset portraits for the creative shoot. That being said, night photography presents its own set of opportunities, and we seized it.

All in all a spiritual and joyous day for all involved and an absolute pleasure to be apart of.

Johannesburg wedding photography | Marcel and Kimera

Venue | Makiti, Cradle of Humankind

Make-up artist | Beauty by Benazir @beautybybenazir

Johannesburg wedding photographer | Jay Pillay Photography

Marcel and Kimera booked me as their wedding photographer early in 2016 and from that first meeting I knew we were going to have a blast together. I was especially looking forward to shooting their wedding at Makiti Venue and Lodge in Johannesburg, as I had heard it was an amazing venue to photograph at. Nestled alongside the cradle of humankind in Maropeng, it gave birth to Marcel and Kimera's wedded life.

We did their engagement shoot at Lethabo Estate and although it was quite the journey getting there, with rocky terrain and dirt roads, the result was well worth the trip as the landscape was beautiful.

Makiti held true to its reputation and proved to be an excellent wedding venue on many fronts. The event organisation was super efficient and assuring in that our wedding co-ordinator was always there to guide the bridal couple and cater to our requests as the photography and videography team. The venue was picturesque, serene, peaceful and surprisingly luscious for this time of year.

The wedding went on without a glitch and even though I would have loved to get more of the golden sunset light, I managed to get some stunning images. I can't even say I was working with Marcel and Kimera during the creative shoot, they were so bubbly, extroverted and free spirited that we just had pure fun during the shoot.

Durban Wedding Photographers | Jubal and Sammy

Jubal and Sammy Chetty

Ceremony | St James Anglican Church

Reception | Elangeni Hotel

Durban wedding photography | Jay Pillay Photography

Sammy and Jubal were such a pleasure to work with. Their relaxed and chilled demeanors were quite refreshing, despite the fact that they faced the daunting task of planning a Durban wedding from Johannesburg. We photographed their engagement session at the Walter Sisulu Botanical Gardens in Krugersdorp and they were indeed naturals in front of the camera (contrary to what they believed).

Their wedding at St James Church was serene to say the least. It was though we were far removed from the outside world. The raw emotion was palpable with every guest completely engaged in the ceremony.

The beautiful Great Ilanga at the Elangeni Hotel made for a perfect reception venue and was more than sufficient for our creative shoot. There was fun, laughter and enthusiasm abound as the couple and guests danced the night away. An unforgettable evening and an absolute pleasure to photograph.

Durban Wedding Photography | Jugmohun

Name | Jivesh and Renell

Date | 4.3.17

Ceremony | de Charmoy Estate

Durban Wedding Photography and Videography | Jay Pillay

Hair/Make-up/Dress-up | Mark and Clint Designs

Jivesh and Renell really valued their imagery. So much so that we took a drive to the Natal Midlands just for their engagement shoot. Their Durban wedding at the scenic de Chamoy estate was a vibrant affair. The weather leading up to their big day was sweltering to say the least, but we fortunately had some respite on the wedding day itself. It was slightly cooler and overcast for much of the day. Given that the traditional ceremony was held in the lush gardens, the cooler conditions were a blessing to both the bridal couple and the guests.

Hindu garden weddings always have a more peaceful, serene atmosphere. It was quintessential tranquility when the Pundit was chanting the sacred manthras amidst the beautiful flora and chirping birds. After the ceremony we proceeded to the creative shoot, and managed to capture most of what this picturesque venue had to offer. We were pressed for time given the fact that Renell and Jivesh needed to freshen up before the reception afterwards, but managed to get some great images. As wedding photographers, we need to make the most of any situation, context, location and time constraint in order to capture the essence and beauty of the couple's most special day.

The reception at the Boma was festive to say the least. It was time for the couple to let loose, and the emotion and euphoria was clear for all to see.

Bridal Couple | Avish + Alicia

Durban wedding videographers | Jay Pillay Films

Avish and Alicia's wedding day struck the perfect balance between opulence and spontaneity. The spectacle that was their wedding day was backed by an amazing recipe; Greensleeves Camelot created the base for an unforgettable setting, the couple were naturally the main ingredients, and there were an abundance of cherries to add on top.

I had so much fun during bridal and groom prep. Rarely have I seen such eccentricity in the interactions between the groom and his groomsmen and bride and her bridesmaids. I could tell that Avish and Alicia could not wait to get married, the excitement they both felt was almost palpable. The ceremony itself was intimate, emotional and beautiful, encapsulated best with the euphoria of the couples first kiss.

Our creative shoot was done on the golf course at Camelot. The occasional shower did not dampen the mood of this couple and we managed to get some stunning imagery. The day ended in style with a reception at the Camelot ball room and I was thrilled to capture the amazing moments that transpired. Avish's speech almost brought everyone to tears as he spoke about the love between them. All in all an absolute pleasure being the Durban wedding photographer for their special day.

Stylish Durban wedding photographer

Tarunesh + Leila

Creative Shoot: Vulintaba Hotel, Small Drakensberg

Reception: Blackrock Casino, Newcastle

Durban indian wedding photographers | Jay Pillay Photography

Taru and Leila were such a chilled, spontaneous couple. From the get-go though, they had a clear vision of how their day looked, and knew what they expected from their Durban wedding photographer. Every interaction I had with them was both fun and productive. I had the pleasure of covering both their pre-wedding function and the wedding itself which was held at the Blackrock Casino.

The wedding was a true spectacle of tradition, colour and vibrancy. The traditional Hindu wedding took place at Paradise Temple. This made for a serene and peaceful setting for the rendition of their Hindu rituals and marriage rights. The creative shoot took place at the exquisite Vulintaba Country Estate in lower Drakensberg. The backdrop of the misty mountains made for some stunning creative shots.

The reception at the Blackrock Casino was classy and opulent. From the décor to the  menu, it was clear that Taru and Leila had paid immaculate attention to detail. The speeches and fun activities that were planned all reflected the charisma of the couple and there was raucous laughter for much of the function. It was such a pleasure photographing this wedding; witnessing and capturing such memories being created. This is definitely one of the joys of being a Durban wedding photographer.
